The Children's Center of Brookline is seeking an experienced educator with
EEC certification to join our team as our
Atelierista (Art and Sensory Teacher).
This position works alongside a creative and experienced team of educators which includes, three full-time team-teachers as well as 1-2 student teachers/interns. This is a full time (32-40 hours a week, this can be a 4 or 5 day a week) position, and includes a designated classroom and studio space, as well as daily care of the children within a teaching team.
The ideal candidate will:
- Be willing to work at least 6 hours per day between the hours 8am and 5pm
- Be at least EEC teacher certified, Lead Teacher certified preferred.
- Have at least two years of classroom teaching experience with children under 5
- Have at least one year of experience teaching and/or creating open-ended art
- Have a solid foundational understanding of Child Development.
- Be committed to classroom management that prioritizes co-regulation
- Be passionate about classroom design, Reggio-inspired pedagogies
- Be eager to curate a processed based, visually engaging and organized studio
- Be passionate about process art and documentation!
- Be comfortable working outdoors in all kinds of weather.
- Be ready to work on a diverse team dedicated to collaboration, inclusivity and professional growth!
Knowledge of the below is NOT required, but is a huge PLUS:
- Reggio-inspired learning strategies.

This schedule includes a 45-minute paid break daily, a minimum of 2 hours of protected plan time weekly* (up to 6 hours of plan time per month can be completed from home), an additional 2 hours per month of team-meeting time, an additional 2 hours per month of paid ALL Staff meeting time

Our program draws inspiration from a variety of research-based philosophies including the work of the Reggio-Emilia schools in Italy, Waldorf Education, Montessori Education, and spends the majority of our day outdoors in our well-appointed outdoor classrooms in all kinds of weather. This position would design and maintain an indoor art/sensory studio-classroom, as well as our mud kitchen and small world play areas in our outdoor classroom. This position would spend equal teaching time both indoors and out!
Job Details:
- This position does include shared day to day tasks including bathrooming, diapering, classroom maintenance, cleanliness, etc.
- This position includes preparing documentation, accurately completing child learning assessment and facilitating two annual parent-teacher conferences per year.
- This position includes curriculum delivery, planning, curating play spaces and presenting materials in a meaningful way.
- This position includes facilitating circle, sing-a-longs, Storytimes and community meetings.
- This position includes behavior management that prioritizes meaningful connections and prioritizes predictable routines.
- This position also requires continuity, confidence and the ability to model best practices in early childhood education to student teachers, interns, and faculty with a wide and varied range of prior experience.
